IT is still the AM Watch. HE handed me an invitation to read "The Chieftain" Section A page 7 folded to reveal one article, "Poverty simulation set for Wednesday." The correspondent reporting the local event is jtucker@chieftain.com. Please feel free to write directly to The Chieftain regarding this discussion. I am offering the following points/suggestions.
- Pay close attention to how "the working poor" are defined.
- Dollars have been invested for hi tech program. How will IT's value be determined?
- IT is being given in the context of an educational and sociological seminar.
- "Scenarios are fairly generic and not tailored to Pueblo ... designed [BUT NOT PROVEN] to drive home a point.
- "People are ... asked to make ends meet ..." thus defining a way of thinking to resolve a problem as circular rather than linear.
The central key to the exercise is to understand the statistics. In Pueblo City Schools the number of children involved is "close to 70 percent of the students."
